BarCampFrankfurt in the offing
Woohoo!
the last week before BarCampFrankfurt begins and we are done with the preparations. It seems we get some routine…
220 people have signed up and there are still about 120 on a waiting list – but we are full. Cisco, as our location sponsor, gave us great help what has made the planning smooth. They have well equipped meeting rooms, a beautiful cafeteria and one thing doesn’t make any headache – the WLAN. Also the other sponsors, local german companies and even the organizer of a traditional conference, were generous and are happily supporting the BarCamp idea.
Too bad we can not stay overnight again, but well… BarCampCologne2 will most likely happen at the QSC AG headquarters in Cologne and they have a huge meadow around their building.
Back to Frankfurt: There will be great sessions. Some presenters announced them in the Wiki already and it looks exciting. The guys from BarCampAlsace, Philippe Schoen an Sascha Lemaire will come and hold a session about the three-country BarCampRhine (France, Germany, Switzerland) which is planned to connect the folks who live left and right of the river.
We are happy that BarCamps take off here. It has become easier to persuade Sponsors (sposoring is not so established here) and we were quite overwhelmed of the response in advance. The traditional media has become curious, last week there was a two hour radio show about the German geektogethers, like BarCamp, Webmontag, pl0gbar and the big re:publica conference which has ended last Friday. Two more BarCamps (BarCampHamburg and BarCampCologne2) are already in the planning)
Thanks to Crystal Williams again. Her "10 Steps to Organizing a BarCamp" were very helpful again and will now be translated into French too. Seems everyone it working with them (I hope Frankfurt isn’t out of your mind yet, Crystal, hehe)
PS: The person in the logo is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who was born in Frankfurt. He stands for fascination, art, enlightment, the ability to communicate, universalism and many many other things. Just right for a BarCamp!
